ELKINS — Citizens Bank of West Virginia has successfully completed the previously announced acquisition of two
branches of Community Bank in Buckhannon and New Martinsville, West Virginia. The transition was finalized on
December 10, 2021.
“We are excited and pleased to welcome our new customers and employees into the Citizens family,” said Nathaniel S. Bonnell, president and CEO. “Citizens’ purchase of these branches extends our footprint into the northwestern part of the state and expands our market presence in Upshur County.”
The acquisition will bring the bank to $490 million in assets with six offices in Randolph, Tucker, Pocahontas, Upshur and Wetzel Counties. The 97-year-old bank has also expanded its employee base to nearly 100 employees to provide integrated financial services including retail and commercial banking, wealth management and mortgage services.
With the purchase in Buckhannon including a second office in close proximity to their current bank, Citizens decided to move from the 77 W. Main Street location to 3 S. Locust Street.
“The Community Bank facility and site offers a much bigger space to accommodate future growth,” said Bonnell. “We are working with an architect with plans to begin remodeling in the spring to give the building an entirely new look.”
