The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 623 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 172 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (12), Barbour (10), Lewis (4), Randolph (3) and Webster (8) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of three active cases over the weekend.
Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 62-year old male from Cabell County, a 56-year old male from Brooke County, an 86-year old male from Wirt County, an 84-year old female from Raleigh County, and a 73-year old female from Wyoming County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 21, 2022, there are currently 623 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 5 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,651 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 239 residents are hospitalized with the virus (58% unvaccinated, 42% vaccinated), with 67 currently in intensive care (61% unvaccinated, 39% vaccinated) and 37on a ventilator (60% unvaccinated, 40% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 2.66%.
A total of 966,666 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 418,927 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
