BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the visiting Wheeling Park Patriots Monday evening at the WVWC courts.
Despite the loss, Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock is encouraged with the progress his team is making.
“The girls, in the first few matches last week, looked tight and nervous but they are starting to loosen up and their play is showing it too,” stated Rock. “They are moving better and competing better. I am proud of the way Mya Critchfield stepped up at No. 4 singles and won a game (in her first singles match ever) and Alexis Wuncher filling in at No. 2 doubles for us. Both are getting some great experience. Those two ladies are freshmen who have never played tennis before, so to see them step up in big varsity roles is great and it shows a bright future for the girls’ team.”
The setback dropped the Lady Bucs to 0-3 on the season.
Their scheduled match with Bridgeport was postponed.
They were slated to have a rematch on the road at Wheeling Park Thursday and will host Washington on Saturday.
