Annie “Peggy” Florence (Johnson) Luby

Annie “Peggy” Florence (Johnson) Luby, 93, loving daughter, devoted wife, and mother, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday February 7, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Annie was born on October 16, 1929, in Beards Fork, Fayette County, WV, the youngest child of Maud Caroline (Noble) and Charles Franklin Johnson, a coal miner.

In her early years, she lived with her siblings in Flat Top and Oak Hill, WV. Due to her father’s death, she and her mother and brother moved to Baltimore, MD, where as a teen she worked in a cinema, and then met and married Howard Joseph Luby on October 3, 1949.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband; her siblings: Minnie “Edith” E. Smith, Mamie F. Johnson, Lena Vera Blake, Thelma M. Richardson, Norma Mae Rayman, Lillian Ruth Treadway, and Charles Richard Johnson; one son, John Franklin Luby; and two granddaughters: Laurie C. Hornsby and Lindsey F. Morgan.

She is survived by 6 children: Linda C. Shannon of Bel Air, MD, Barbara E. Morgan of Mooresville, NC, Brenda G. Renner of Buckhannon, WV, Sandra J. Lagana of Hurricane, WV, Patricia L. Luby of Buckhannon, WV, and Kenneth B. Luby of Buckhannon, WV; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

A Graveside Service will be held at Indian Camp Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023, with Pastor Wease Day officiating.
