FRENCH CREEK – A new convenience store that will also offer a limited menu on a week-by-week basis conducted an official ribbon cutting Monday.
Nicole Coe, the owner of Coe’s Country Store, said the business first opened its doors Feb. 3 but had the official Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting Monday, March 20.
“I worked in the convenience store industry for 20 years – two convenience stores in Buckhannon – and when they were sold, I decided to venture out on my own,” Coe said. “We’re doing some food now, but it will depend. On the weekends, we will have sausage gravy and tomato gravy over biscuits and pancakes. Throughout the week, we’re going to try to do pulled pork and hotdogs, but it changes every week. I don’t have a set menu just yet.”
The new store can be found on the Alexander Road, located at 1665 Co Route 11, in French Creek, and for now, it is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until the owner determines what hours best fit the needs of the community.
The store also offers five hookups for campers; four have water, electricity and sewage, while one has just water and electricity.
Director of the Upshur County Development Authority Robbie Skinner said he was happy to see a convenience store open in the area.
“I don’t believe outside of the Rock Cave IGA that there’s any place to buy any food until you get to either Helvetia or to back to Buckhannon,” Skinner said. “I think this does serve a niche here, and anybody going fishing in the river, going four-wheeler riding or going to different events in southern Upshur County, this will be a good stop-off point.”
