ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur cross-country Bucs put three runners in the top 10 at the Forest Festival Invitational Saturday morning at the course at Davis & Elkins College.
Jack Waggy led the Bucs with an impressive run taking second place with a time of 18:44.65 while Joey Nolte was sixth with a clocking of 19:36.67 while Alex Sappey was seventh with a time of 20:01.57.
“Jack had a really good race going but tightened up toward the end,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy. “Alex and Joey both have made huge gains since this time last year.”
Rounding out the scoring for B-U were Isaac Snodgrass in 22nd (22:02.65) and Jeremy Allman in 35th (24:13.56) while Bryce Mullens placed 39th (24:46.62).
Joshua Bodkins of Elkins finished in front of Waggy to win the individual title with a time 18:24.79.
As a team, the Bucs placed third with 68 points.
Elkins won their own event with 30 points while Hampshire was runner-up with 46 points.
“It was a good race for both the boys,” concluded Stacy. “It was a good showing and helps us to gauge our middle of the season fitness levels. I am hoping to put together some nice races again next weekend before we really step into the championship part of our season. I am excited for the weeks ahead.”
Buckhannon-Upshur will be back in action this Saturday at the Grafton Bearcat Invitational at 9:45 a.m.
