Snow expected to end this weekend, but frigid temperatures will remain through Monday

BUCKHANNON — With Upshur County already blanketed in several inches of snow, more flurries and frigid temperatures are forecast for the weekend.

Snow showers are expected to linger in Upshur County through Saturday morning, with 1 to 4 inches possible overnight Friday through Saturday at noon. With the end of the precipitation, though, comes much colder temperatures.

“Additional lake enhanced upslope snow will be possible Friday into Saturday, especially for the higher terrain,” the National Weather Service said Friday afternoon. “Much colder temperatures move into the area through Monday morning.”

The low Friday and Saturday is 10 degrees, with a high of 18 on Saturday. The daylight hours Sunday will be a bit warmer, with a high of 24 degrees, before temperatures plunge again to a low of 6 Sunday night.

A winter weather warning remains in effect through 10 a.m. Saturday, and the NWS advises that roads will remain slick.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS warns. “Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.”

The pattern of winter weather will finally break next week, with sunshine and temperatures climbing into the 40s on Monday. Tuesday will see a cloudy 51 degrees, and then rain will move into the area through Friday, with temperatures remaining in the 50s — and possibly even sneaking briefly above 60 degrees.
