Wesleyan softball picked fifth in South Division in MEC preseason poll

BRIDGEPORT – Fairmont State University and the University of Charleston softball programs have been voted as this season’s divisional favorites in the 2025 Mountain East Conference preseason poll. The MEC’s 11 head coaches each submitted a ballot, but were not permitted to vote for their own team.

Fairmont State topped Frostburg State for the top spot in the MEC’s North Division, with the Falcons receiving eight of 11 first-place votes. The Bobcats received the other three first-place votes. The preseason voting is the same order of finish from the 2024 season, when Fairmont State posted a 40-13 overall record and 22-6 conference mark to win the North.

In the South Division, UC edged Davis & Elkins for the top spot. The Golden Eagles received eight of 11 first-place votes, while the Senators received the other three. Last season, Charleston won the South Division with a 51-8 overall record, including 27-3 in MEC play. Glenville State, which was picked to finish third this season, was the runner-up in 2024.

Davis & Elkins was picked as the preseason runner-up to the Golden Eagles after the teams faced off in the 2024 MEC Championship game. UC won the title tilt, 7-2, last May.
