BUCKHANNON — Wheeling University delivered a commanding performance on Sunday afternoon and took down West Virginia Wesleyan 26–4 at Cebe Ross Field.
From the opening draw to the final whistle, the Cardinals were relentless, surging to a 10–1 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Led by a career day from Trinity Rose, who racked up eight goals, one assist, six caused turnovers, and four draw controls, Wheeling imposed its will on both ends of the field.
Klara Domachowska played a pivotal role with 6 goals and 4 assists, contributing to a team-high 10 points. She paired seamlessly with Rose in orchestrating the offense, while Paige Jankowski (four goals, two assists) and Sophia Cirone (three goals) added further scoring threats.
The Cardinals peppered the Lady Bobcats’ cage with 47 total shots, 33 of which were on goal, keeping Wesleyan’s defense on its heels. They were especially effective in transition and on free-position opportunities, converting 3-of-4 from the arc.
While the offense lit up the scoreboard, the defense quietly suffocated the Lady Bobcats, allowing just nine shots total, including a stretch of 22 consecutive minutes without a Wesleyan goal spanning the second and third quarters. Goalie Giavonna Perkins needed only two saves as her defense forced 30 turnovers, with Bre’ya Clopper and Rose wreaking havoc across the midfield.
Wheeling also won the hustle stats, scooping up more ground balls (15–8) and executing a perfect 4-for-4 on clears, while Wesleyan struggled mightily, completing just 5-of-15.
Despite the lopsided result, Nyah Elmer stood out for West Virginia Wesleyan with two goals and a team-best four draw controls. Emma Adcock and Francesca Sloan each added a goal, with Sloan contributing defensively as well with two caused turnovers and one draw control.
Goalie Ella Gomez made 10 saves on 33 shots faced, preventing the margin from growing even wider during the game’s middle stages.
