Stephen Roberts Ashworth passed away at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, North Carolina on Dec. 30, 2018.
He was born Jan. 20, 1946 in Anna, Illinois. He was the son of Hazel Roberts Ashworth and Adrian Lincoln Ashworth, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother James Henry Ashworth.
He is survived by his wife Susan Anderson Ashworth, his sons Stephen Ryan Ashworth (Michael) and John Roberts Ashworth (Michael), brother Adrian Ashworth (Sandi), sister Sarah Vandergrift (Rodger), stepson Jon Hansen (Elizabeth), and stepdaughter Amy Violette (Jud). He also is survived by four grandsons that he loved dearly (Cooper, Benjamin, Alex, and Asher).
He also will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Stephen graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1964, where he was co-captain of the 1963 state championship football team. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1969.
He spent his professional career at General Motors, focused on personnel and labor relations retiring in 1999. After retirement, Stephen enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the beach, gardening, and spending time with family.
His kindness, quiet sense of humor, and determined spirit will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Friends will be received from Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Meadows officiating.
