MEDIA ADVISORY: Gov. Justice to attend Unclaimed Veteran Interment Ceremony on Memorial Day

Gov. Jim Justice will attend an Unclaimed Veteran Interment Ceremony held by the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance on Memorial Day.

The service will take place at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, located at:

130 Academy Drive
Dunbar, WV 25064

The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2019. Gov. Justice will deliver opening remarks and a full military ceremony will follow.

The veterans to be interred are those for whom, after their death, no next-of-kin could be found. The WVDVA contacted morgues and mortuaries throughout the state in a search for unclaimed veterans to ensure that they received full military honors.

Any veteran is eligible to be buried in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery free of cost who served on active duty for at least 24 months and who was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.

For more information, contact the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance at 304-558-3661.
