Fast moving snow storm sweeps through Upshur County

A fast moving winter storm is expected to dump a light blanket of snow on Upshur County on Tuesday.

“Snow accumulations of 3 to 4 inches,” reads a Winter Weather Advisory from the Charleston office of the National Weather Service. “Locally highers amounts to 5 inches across the higher hilltops and ridgetops.”

The advisory covers much of West Virginia and expires at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

As the flakes began to fall Tuesday morning, multiple wrecks were reported along Route 33 between Weston and Elkins.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS advisory warns. “Locally heavy bands of snow can create accumulations on roads, along with very low visibility.”

This blast of winter weather is not expected to last long, with temperatures climbing rapidly into the weekend. Saturday’s forecast high is a very unseasonable 71 degrees in Buckhannon.
