The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 40 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 59-year old male from Lincoln County.
The daily total of new cases was the lowest in West Virginia since June, when new cases dipped into the teens and even single digits before surging in July and August.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 24, 2020, there have been 398,479 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 9,312 total cases and 179 deaths,” according to a press release.
New cases were reported Monday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Hampshire, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Marion, Mason, Mercer, Monongalia, Nicholas, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Roane, Taylor and Wayne counties.
About 1,748 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 7,385 people have recovered and 179 have died. The daily percent positive was 1.7%.
