HOC invites locals to celebrate Homeownership Month and NeighborWorks Week

ELKINS, WV — The HomeOwnership Center is partnering with Highland Meadows and Highland Community Builders to host an open house event at Highland Meadows for potential homebuyers in the area. The event marks the start of HomeOwnership Month, a time to celebrate the benefits that homeownership brings to families, neighborhoods, and communities.

The open house event will be held in the Highland Meadows neighborhood off Wilson Lane at 15 Grace Circle in Elkins from noon until 3 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour a soon to be for sale home constructed by YouthBuild North Central, learn about Highland Meadows and HOC services, and complete HOC’s initial intake form to get started with the homebuying process. The event will also be streamed live on HOC’s Facebook page and is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

The house is 1,321 square-foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom and includes: double-hung windows, front and back porch, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, washer, and dryer. The YouthBuild crew expect to have the home completed by this summer.

“We are excited to be showcasing the great work of YouthBuild North Central this year as we celebrate Home Ownership month and NeighborWorks Week. They’ve built a beautiful home in a growing Elkins neighborhood at a time when there are lots of folks looking to buy a house,” said Kate Somers, executive director of HOC. “We are happy to help them show it off, and with all the homebuyer services and loans we offer, we’d love to be the ones who help get just the right buyer into this home.”

HOC will also be celebrating the nationally recognized NeighborWorks Week, a nationwide celebration of neighborhood revitalization and community development activities held the first week of June each year.

HOC is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of nearly 250 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In fiscal year 2020, the NeighborWorks network provided more than 438,600 housing and counseling services; owned and managed 179,900 rental homes; and created 43,810 jobs. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
