No major damage to new fire engine that went into ditch during training exercise

BUCKHANNON – A Buckhannon Fire Department fire engine accidentally ran off Brushy Fork Road Thursday night, briefly blocking traffic.

Buckhannon Fire Chief JB Kimble said Friday the fire department’s new truck, Engine 11, accidentally traveled into a ditch during a training exercise May 26 at approximately 7:40 p.m.

“We started the class, and they were doing the driving aspect of it, and [the driver] came around the curve and met a car,” Kimble said. “Brushy Fork Road is skinny, so they got over and at that point, part of the road is missing, so when he dropped down where part of the road was missing, it just sucked the truck right in the ditch.”

No one was injured, and the truck was still operational, Kimble added.

“We have a guy from the company coming to look at it,” the fire chief said. “It’ll probably have to go to get inspected, but it’s still operational and still in service right now.”
