Editor’s note: Below is a press release from the City of Buckhannon.
BUCKHANNON — We trust you have had a wonderful Thanksgiving Celebration these past several days. Buckhannon is just about ready to welcome the Christmas season in a big way!
Please take note of the following events and initiatives:
Parish House Food Drive — From now until the end of business on Thursday, November 30th, we ask you to help us help others! The Parish House is in great need of food to distribute, so we are reminding you to drop off nonperishable food items at City Hall from Monday through Thursday (November 27, 28, 29 & 30), and we will deliver them to the Parish House on your behalf.
Christmas Parade — Friday, December 1, will be our City of Buckhannon Fire Department’s annual Christmas parade. Line-up is informal, meaning you do not need to sign up or register in advance. If you have a group interested in participating in the parade, please be on Madison Street at 5:30 p.m. Volunteers will be on the street, directing traffic and groups to the right places. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. The route will be the same as always: from Wendy’s up Locust Street (Route 20) to Main Street at the Courthouse, then down East Main Street, ending at the Fire Department, where Santa will greet kids and families. We hope to see everyone downtown for what is always a fun evening in our community!
The West Virginia Dickens Christmas Festival and Faire — Saturday, December 2, will be The W.Va. Dickens Christmas Festival and Faire, Buckhannon, WV! Our beautiful Main Street turns back in time to help celebrate the beginning of the holiday season! Horse-drawn carriage rides, open-air vendors, characters from the Christmas carol, great food! Great entertainment! Keep up with all of the exciting events planned by going to https://www.facebook.com/WVDickensChristmasFestivalandFaire.
“A Christmas Story” debuts at the Colonial Arts Center — The Buckhannon Community Theatre (BCT) is thrilled to present “A Christmas Story,” adapted by the talented Philip Grecian. This production is particularly special as it features a mostly child-based cast, showcasing the incredible talent of young actors in our community. Some shows have already sold out, so make plans and secure your tickets NOW! Performance dates for “A Christmas Story” are as follows: December 2, 3, 9, and 10 at 2 p.m. and December 2, 8, and 9 at 7 p.m.
Street Closings — For the safety and success of some of our events, street closings will happen as follows:
- Friday, Dec. 1 from 6-8 p.m. – Buckhannon Christmas Parade – Main Street, Sedgwick Street, South Kanawha Street, and Madison Street.
