KERENS – The thunder rumbling through the hills of Randolph County Saturday was not from the slightly rainy weather. With each switch of the ignition, engines roared at the Elkins Raceway Test & Tune event Saturday evening.

Elkins Raceway is a 3/8-mile dirt racetrack located in the hills of Kerens, West Virginia.

After a long winter of nights spent fixing the previous season’s body work, engine and cosmetic mishaps, drivers were eager to show off their hard work at the Test and Tune event on April 30. As each driver pulled their rig into the pits, anticipation for the drop of the green flag continued to build.

The practice event provided drivers with a relaxed jump-start to the season, while spectators got a behind-the-curtain look at the racing season ahead.

Elkins Speedway features the following racing classes:

  • Young Mini Wedge
  • Older Mini Wedge
  • Edge Hot Mods
  • Street Stock
  • United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) Modifieds
  • FasTrak Crate Late Models
  • Super Late Models

Join the Elkins Raceway family this Saturday, May 7 as the first, official green flag of the season falls. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. General Admission/Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. Hot laps begin at 7:30 p.m. See the Elkins Raceway website for admission prices for both regular racing and special events.
