Glenville State College Preservice Teachers Complete Student Teaching Internships

GLENVILLE, WV – Ten students have completed their student teaching internships for Glenville State College (GSC) during the fall 2020 semester.

Hannah Allen of Chloe, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Biology Education (9-adult) at Gilmer County High School with Willard Wright. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Larry Baker were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Jamie and Stephanie Allen of Chloe, West Virginia.

Tabitha Cochrum of Mount Lookout, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Oak Hill High School with Greg Richmond and at New River Intermediate with Sara Pennington. Dr. David Lewis and Frances Fry were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Gary and Kim Walker of Mount Lookout, West Virginia. She has two children, Briar and Logan. Cochrum has accepted a position in elementary music in Webster County at Hacker Valley and Webster Springs.

Ryan Colaw of Petersburg, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and General Math-Algebra I (5-9) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Kim Roberts and at Gilmer County High School with Natalie White. Dr. Shelly Ratliff, Larry Baker, and Dr. Amy Adkins were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Mark and Julie Colaw of Petersburg, West Virginia. Colaw has accepted a position teaching mathematics at Buckhannon Upshur Middle School in Upshur County.

Jessica DiGenarro of Kirkwood, New York completed her student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Roane County High School with Bridget Casto. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. David Lewis were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Dan and Tanya DiGenarro.

Anna Lusk of Princeton, West Virginia completed her student teaching in English Education (5-adult) at Gilmer County High School with Kristin Smith and Dr. Grace Wine. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. Melody Wise were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Lacy and Donna Lusk of Princeton, West Virginia.

Allison (Peery) Moss of Glenville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Tanya Stewart and Erica Dennison. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Steven and the late Patricia Peery of Ravenswood, West Virginia. She currently resides in Glenville, West Virginia with her husband Matthew and son Henry. Moss has accepted a position in Calhoun County at Pleasant Hill Elementary School where she will be teaching fourth grade math and science.

Sara Sellers of Weston, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Biology Education (9-adult) at Lewis County High School with Yvonne Tannous. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Larry Baker were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Bo and Angie Sellers of Weston, West Virginia.

McKenze (Yanero) Steele of Heaters, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Pleasant Hill Elementary where she served as a Teacher-in-Residence with Patty Haught. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Thomas and Wyndi Yanero of Heaters, West Virginia. She currently resides in Stouts Mill, West Virginia with her husband Tyler.

Kristie Taylor of Clay, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Roane County High School with Hope Staats. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. David Lewis were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Robert and Leilani Taylor and Nancy Taylor, all of Clay, West Virginia. She currently resides in Newton, West Virginia with her fiancée, Alexander. Taylor has accepted a long-term substitute position in Clay County at Clay County Middle School in middle school art grades 6-8.

Laura Webb of Big Springs, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Arnoldsburg Elementary School where she served as a Teacher-in-Residence with Dana Ferrell. Connie Stout O’Dell was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Rick and Tammey Webb of Big Springs, West Virginia. Webb was recognized as the Outstanding Student Teaching Intern for the fall 2020 semester at GSC. She has also accepted a position in Calhoun County at Arnoldsburg Elementary School in third grade where she will teach reading/language arts and social studies.

Senior teacher education students take part in an internship during their final semester at GSC. At the conclusion of their internship students must complete a presentation illustrating their mastery of the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards as well as the standards of their particular area of study.
