Lolli&Pops Ice Cream Shop serves up tasty treats and savory snacks on Tallmansville Road

BUCKHANNON – A new business on the Tallmansville Road offers creative ice cream combinations and homemade savory snacks.

Lolli&Pops Ice Cream Shop opened May 8 at 4738 Tallmansville Road after owner Mary Hull said she was looking for a new project to occupy her time.

“I was looking for a hobby, something to do prior to coming home in the evening, because my kids are grown,” she said. “It was just to give me something else to do, but it’s turned into more than that.”

Located about five miles down Tallmansville Road, Hull said the shop offers people in that area a place to grab a bite to eat.

“I’m close to town, but yet out of town, and there’s a lot of side-by-side traffic,” she said. “We like to ride side-by-sides, and I just thought it’d be nice to have someplace to go get ice cream.”

The business has been busy since the day she opened.

“You can buy hot dogs, we have ketchup, mustard, chili and onions, we have French fries, chicken nuggets, and then we have the ice cream,” Hull said. “We have what we call a tsunami, with different toppings mixed in the ice cream, as well as shakes and sundaes. We do soft serve with chocolate, vanilla and a twist on a daily basis, and on weekends we usually run a different sandwich each week or a different ice cream each week.”

Some of her previous specials included a bacon chicken wrap and an Elvis special featuring vanilla ice cream, a whole banana, Reese’s peanut butter sauce, whipped cream and peanuts, topped with a Nutter Butter.

“My favorite has been when I use the Little Debbie Nutty Buddy bars, but we’ve done a couple other Little Debbie specials, or during the Strawberry Festival, we had strawberry desserts and a few other things,” Hull said. “The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup tsunami seems to be everyone’s favorite as far as the ice cream, but the pepperoni rolls are definitely popular too.”

Hull also integrates passed-down family recipes into the menu.

“I’ve gotten a lot of people coming in for our hot dogs — the hot dog chili recipe I use was my mom’s,” Hull said. “She was a deli manager at Foodland for 30-plus years, so I use that recipe and people seem to really like it.”

Lolli&Pops Ice Cream Shop is open Thursday and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hull hopes to start opening on Mondays as well and encouraged customers to check her Facebook page for future updates on specials and new hours.
