BUCKHANNON – Gather your loved ones, there are so many fun things to do in Upshur County this month!

BUCKHANNON UPSHUR CAMERA CLUB COLOR MY WORLD EXHIBIT 

  • Start: May 19, 2022, 4:00 pm 
  • End: June 11, 2022, 8:00 pm 
  • Location: Colonial Arts Center, 48 E. Main Street in Buckhannon 

Collection of works from local photographers will be on exhibit on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Colonial Arts Center at 48 E. Main Street in Buckhannon.  

YOUNG STORYTELLERS CAMP 

  • Start: June 20, 2022 
  • End: June 24, 2022 
  • Location: Colonial Arts Center, 48 E. Main Street in Buckhannon 

ART26201, with Upshur County Schools, will host the 2nd Annual YOUNG STORYTELLERS CAMP, open to high school ages, at the Colonial Arts Center in Buckhannon, West Virginia. The weeklong day-camp will focus on the traditional Appalachian art of storytelling. 

Space is available for up to 24 students, who will perform their stories on the Main Stage at the conclusion of camp. All-stars James Froemel, Doug Van Gundy, and Jason Young will return to lead the camp instruction. 

Please contact info@ART26201.com to reserve your student’s seat and be sure to include your student’s T-shirt size when signing up for camp! The camp is open to kids ages 14-18 and runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Cost is $150.

Snacks and drinks will be provided; however, students will be asked to bring lunch daily.

YOUNG FILMMAKERS CAMP 

  • Start: June 27, 2022 
  • End: July 1, 2022 
  • Location: LASCAUX Micro-Theater, Traders Alley in Buckhannon 

ART26201 will host the 7th Annual ART26201 Young Filmmakers Camp, open to students 12 and up, at LASCAUX Micro-Theater in Buckhannon, West Virginia. The five-day workshop will guide students through writing, shooting, and editing a short film. All students will learn the essentials of sharing a compelling story, screenwriting, videography, and editing while working in a collaborative environment. Additionally, students will be introduced to the vocabulary of filmmaking so that they can communicate about their work professionally. At the end of the week, we will hold a screening of student-produced films so students can celebrate their accomplishments with their friends and families. 

Andrew Carroll, Bryce O’Loughlin, Jon Benjamin, and Jess Johnson return to lead the camp instruction.

OUTDOOR YOGA  

  • Start: June 6, 2022 7:00 pm

  • Location: Buckhannon Riverwalk 

Wild Vinyasa Yoga brings a rejuvenating outdoor flow at the Riverwalk, by WV Wesleyan College! We will practice outside, weather permitting of course, every Monday evening with the final class on July 25, 2022. This class is open to all levels but not suitable for young children (teens are welcome). Please bring your own yoga mat & water bottle. I suggest dressing in layers, bringing a blanket to put your yoga mat on, and bringing yoga blocks if needed. Check the Facebook Page the day of when it’s raining or cold. Class is weather permitting. Members of Wild Vinyasa Yoga Studio may use a class pass for this class. College students are free with student ID. 

BUCKHANNON FARMERS MARKET

  • Location: Jawbone Park, Buckhannon 

Support local farmers by purchasing fresh produce and other goodies at Jawbone Park. Starting June 1, 2022. Stop by on Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and Fridays from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  

MISS WEST VIRGINIA USA & MISS WEST VIRGINIA TEEN USA PAGEANT 

  • Start: June 3, 2022  
  • End: June 5, 2022  
  • Location: West Virginia Wesleyan College Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts 

The Miss West Virginia USA & Miss West Virginia Teen USA pageants will once again be held in Buckhannon! Additional event details will be released soon. Scheduled for the weekend of June 3, 4 & 5, 2022, the competitions will be held at the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.  

CLOTHES CLOSET’S BRAND-NEW ITEMS YARD SALE 

  • Start: June 3, 2022 8:30 am 
  • End: June 3, 2022 2:00 pm 
  • Location: 47 Sedgwick Street  

The Clothes Closet thrift store will have a yard sale of brand-new clothing and other items on Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. A variety of sizes is available. All items still have tags on them. The Clothes Closet is located at 47 Sedgwick Street, Buckhannon, and is part of the Upshur Parish House. The yard sale will be on the back porch. 

BUCKHANNON YOUNG EAGLES DAY

  • Location: Upshur County Regional Airport 

Free airplane rides for kids ages 8-17 (with parent/guardian consent). Come experience the wonder of flight with a FREE airplane ride. 

RUNNING WITH WHISKEY: WORDS & MUSIC FROM APPALACHIA

Fundraiser for SkillsUSA chapter students attending the National SkillsUSA Competition June 20-24, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia. T-shirts and refreshments available at FETC. Bike registration at 8:00 am, last bike out at 9:00 am, last bike in at 2:00 pm. $10 per motorcycle rider. Cash prizes for best hand and 50/50 raffle. Car show will be held from 9:00am to 1:00pm. $10 per vehicle entered in the show. Music, games and 50/50. Trophies will be given to various vehicle categories. Come out to support these students and future workers! Everyone is welcome!

RIDE 2 SURVIVE ELLAMORE VFD
