New Lodge restaurant one of many improvements at Tygart Lake State Park

GRAFTON, W.Va. — The Lodge is not only a place to stay overnight at Tygart Lake State Park near Grafton; it’s now the name of the new park restaurant that opened this month at this central West Virginia destination.

In the past, the restaurant operation had been contracted out, but it is now managed and operated by state parks staff, giving visitors and overnight guests a steady and consistent menu of good food and good service.

“Our visitors always called the restaurant ‘the lodge’ when they talked about getting a meal at the park,” said Tygart Lake State Park Supt. Jim Browning. “We decided to officially call our version ‘The Lodge’ because it is simple, fitting, and what everyone called it anyway.”

Visitors will see improvements in the restaurant and the menu. Guests also may choose outdoor seating on a new patio with a view of the lake, soft seating, umbrella tables and fire pits. Professional chefs will create favorite park dishes along with new items. The restaurant will have live entertainment during some weekends.

This has been a summer of improvements at Tygart Lake State Park. The lake trail has been expanded and now includes a deck with seating next to the lodge courtesy dock. Campers now have upgraded campsites that include electric hookups, a new campground office and a gift shop. The park cabins have been renovated to include new kitchens, windows, lighting, HVAC and furniture.

Soon to come will be the completion of a broadband project that will allow high-speed internet and Wi-Fi in areas of the park. The park also is planning cabin courtesy docks and a major lodge redecoration and renovation project.

“Our guests enjoy swimming, camping, boating, and many other activities at Tygart Lake State Park, and we think this new restaurant and other improvements will make their visits even more enjoyable,” Supt. Browning said.
