No new COVID-19 deaths reported in West Virginia for the first time since November

For the first time since November 27, no new daily COVID-19 deaths were reported in West Virginia on Monday. The number of new cases was also the lowest since the fall.

A total of 2,300 state residents have died since the pandemic began.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 193 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Lewis (1), Randolph (2) and Webster (3) counties.

A total of 72 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of March 1, 2021, there have been 2,181,987 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 132,048 total cases and 2,300 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,997 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 122,751 people have recovered and 2,300 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.39%.

A total of 197,756 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
