A total of 24 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Saturday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, as well as one additional death.
A 70-year-old male from Kanawha County died of the virus, according to the DHHR.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on May 9, 2020, there have been 61,564 laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,347 positive, 60,217 negative and 53 deaths,” according to a press release.
The cumulative positive rate remained 2.2 percent. The daily rate of positive cases reported Saturday was 1.2 percent.
About 505 of the West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 775 people have recovered and 53 have died, a mortality rate of about 6.4 percent.
New cases were reported Saturday in Berkeley, Cabell, Fayette, Gilmer, Hardy, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Monongalia, Ohio and Wetzel counties.
