Soccer ‘Cats get blanked by Concord at home, 2-0

BUCKHANNON — West Virginia Wesleyan men’s soccer team dropped a Mountain East Conference match 2-0 to Concord University, Sunday.

It felt a lot like the Bobcats’ first matchup with the Mountain Lions. In the first half, the teams played even with limited chances on either end of the field. But in the second half, Concord ran through avenues between Bobcat defenders to score twice.

Malher Santi Possu found a scrambling ball in front of goal to record his fifth goal of the year at 52:39, then Syrus Conolly capitalized on a penalty kick in the 79th minute after Louis Willis-Falkiner committed a take down inside the box.

The lopsided box score gave Concord 15 shots, eight of which were on goal. Wesleyan managed five shots but none were on-goal.

Wesleyan travels to Frostburg State University Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a rematch of the season’s first game in which Wesleyan lost 2-0 at home. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
