Soccer Lady Bucs lose for the first time in three weeks as they fall at Wheeling Park

WHEELING – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs suffered their first loss in three weeks as they made the bus trip to Wheeling and lost a 5-0 decision to a very good Wheeling Park Patriots team Saturday morning in a non-conference clash.

The Lady Bucs trailed just 1-0 at the half but things broke down in the second half as they gave up four goals.

Merrit Delk scored Wheeling Park’s first goal with under a minute left in the first half to make it a 1-0 game.

Delk scored just two minutes into the second half and Kathryn Prather found the back of the net just three minutes later to put the Lady Bucs down 3-0.

Delk managed a hat trick with her third goal in the 60th minute and Lily Hannah wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 69th minute.

“Wheeling Park did a good job of pressing us and made it difficult for us to connect our passes resulting in them having more control over the game,” said Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente. “On a positive note, we consistently have strong performances from our midfielders who continue to play excellent soccer.”

The Lady Bucs trailed in shots-on-goal by a 9-1 margin and in corner kicks by a 7-0 count.

Both teams committed four fouls.

B-U keeper Kyndal Davis made four saves while Wheeling Park’s Hailey Hastings stopped the only shot she saw.

Wheeling Park improved to 7-2-1 while Buckhannon-Upshur fell to 7-3-1.

The Lady Bucs will return to the pitch Tuesday at East Fairmont for a 6 p.m. start.
