Game 1
In a matchup that showcased solid offense and pitching, Glenville State emerged victorious with a 5-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. The game, marked by key moments in the middle innings, saw the Pioneers break through with a strong offensive surge.
The first significant play came in the second inning when West Virginia Wesleyan’s Gracey Arnold crossed the plate after a double from Rhiannon Godley, giving the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers capitalized on a big fifth inning, beginning with a two-run homer from Makenna Negley, bringing in Delaney Warnick. The blast put Glenville State on top, 2-1. But the inning wasn’t over yet. Kylee Goodman followed up with a solo homer to increase the lead to 3-1. Later in the inning, Monica Rodelo singled, bringing in Emma McLean to make it 4-1. In the seventh, Goodman was able to advance to third base on a passed ball. Warnick, who had already reached base, scored an unearned run, extending Glenville State’s advantage to 5-1.
Kelsi Brown, who took the loss, pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Despite some strong individual performances, including a double by Gracey Arnold and a solid 2-for-4 showing by Lynzee Hague, the Bobcats couldn’t slug over the Pioneers.
Game 2
Glenville State shut out West Virginia Wesleyan 4-0 powered by timely hitting and a stellar pitching outing from Kylie Burdick.
The Pioneers took control early, scoring three runs in the second inning. After Delany Warnick crossed the plate on a single by Kylee Goodman, Emma McLean delivered a two-run homer, bringing Goodman home and extending the lead to 3-0.
In the fifth, Monica Rodelo added another run with an RBI single, scoring Goodman on an unearned run to make it 4-0.
Burdick was the star on the mound, throwing a complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits while striking out three and walking none in seven innings of work, earning the win.
For West Virginia Wesleyan, Kendall Stoffel (3.0 IP, 3 ER) took the loss, despite a strong performance from Morgan Greene (4.0 IP, 1 ER). The Bobcats struggled offensively, managing only two hits and leaving four runners on base.
