BUCKHANNON In a tightly contested pitcher’s duel, West Virginia Wesleyan edged out the University of Charleston (W.V.) with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a key third-inning play and a dominant performance in the circle in game one of a doubleheader.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the third inning when Alyssa Rohr singled and advanced to second on a miscue by Charleston’s left fielder, Raegan West. The error proved costly, as Rohr ultimately came around to score—an unearned run that would stand as the game-winner.
Rohr was the offensive standout for Wesleyan, going 2-for-3 and scoring the only run of the game. The rest of the Lady Bobcats’ lineup was quiet, recording just two hits total against Charleston’s pitcher Addison Mass, who went the distance with six strikeouts and no walks over six innings, while allowing only one unearned run.
On the flip side, Kendall Stoffel was masterful for Wesleyan, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just one hit and two walks over seven innings, striking out five and needing just 97 pitches to secure the win.
Gaem two saw West Virginia Wesleyan defeated the University of Charleston using early offense and a complete game from Stoffel to secure the win.
Charleston scored first in the top of the first on a Tatum Hodson RBI double. Wesleyan answered in the bottom half when Gracey Arnold singled in Andie Dizon to tie it 1–1.
In the second, Dizon came through again with a two-run single, scoring Alyssa Rohr and Hallie Dinklocker to make it 3–1. The Lady Bobcats added two more in the fourth—one on a Josi Fix RBI single and another on a Sydney Leadbetter base hit, extending the lead to 5–1.
Charleston chipped away with a run in the sixth on a Brooke Ogg single and another in the seventh on a Lexi Phares RBI hit, but Stoffel closed it out. She allowed 10 hits and struck out five over seven innings to earn the win.
Dizon led Wesleyan at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Fix added two hits and an RBI. For Charleston, Ariana Rubal went 3-for-4, and Hodson and Ogg each had run-scoring hits.
