State Police: Incident at Audra State Park remains under investigation

BUCKHANNON – Audra State Park was shut down for about five hours Saturday night following a reported shooting, but West Virginia State Police declined to release any additional information about the incident Sunday morning.

Investigating officer Sgt. Keith Corley with the Philippi detachment of the West Virginia State Police said the investigation was ongoing, and not all family members of the individuals involved had been notified.

Corley did confirm an incident occurred at 6:50 p.m. in a parking lot at Audra State Park in Barbour County and that the park was subsequently locked down until approximately midnight while units from Upshur, Barbour and surrounding counties investigated.

“I can’t release any information at this time because it’s still fresh and the investigation is ongoing,” Corley said. “We are waiting until all the next-of-kin have been notified before we give out more information.”

Corley said a press release would likely be issued by the West Virginia State Police headquarters in Charleston on Sunday or Monday.

Police confirmed Audra reopened to the public Sunday morning.
