State police searching for missing 16-year-old Buckhannon girl

Olivia Hite

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia State Police is asking for the public’s help to find a 16-year-old Buckhannon girl who’s been missing since Thursday, Dec. 5.

Investigating officer Trooper J.S. Tonkin with the Buckhannon detachment of the WVSP said the agency is searching for Olivia Hite, a Buckhannon-Upshur High School student whose mother reported her as a runaway Thursday.

Olivia stands 5 feet, 8 inches, weighs about 105 pounds and has brown hair, according to Tonkin.

“She left home Monday, Dec. 2, but she was in contact with her mother until Wednesday, Dec. 4, and since then, there has been no contact,” Tonkin said Sunday morning.

Tonkin said he’s received reports of Olivia being spotted in the Buckhannon area on Friday but needs more tips and leads to follow.

Anyone with any information about her whereabouts is asked to call Tonkin at the Buckhannon detachment at 304-473-4200 or the Upshur County E911 Communication Center at 304-472-9550 or 304-472-0553.

“We think she’s OK because she was seen in the Buckhannon area as recently as Friday, but we need to find her,” Tonkin said.
