Support Granted to Local Hospitals and Healthcare Workers in Fight Against COVID-19

Davis Health System, like other healthcare providers, faces higher prices for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) due to national supply issues and the coronavirus surge. PPE, like masks, gowns and gloves, is essential in the safety of frontline workers caring for patients who are suspected of having, or who have COVID-19. A new DHS Foundation fund will help offset the hospital’s cost for purchasing these much needed supplies.

Healthcare workers – doctors, nurses, technicians and support staff – are working around the clock to protect our communities from the growing COVID-19 pandemic.  The Davis Health System Foundation is urging support to ensure these frontline heroes have the necessary equipment to care for COVID-19 patients.

The Foundation has announced a $25,000 emergency assistance grant to Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital/Mansfield Place, and Webster County Memorial Hospital. Each dollar goes directly toward the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other support to fight COVID-19 in local communities.

Community hospitals face severe shortages of supplies and unprecedented financial challenges related to COVID-19. This $25,000 grant will help to offset the more than $100,000 spent by Davis Health System in recent weeks to improve infection control and COVID testing capabilities.  Contributions from the public will help with the purchase of additional masks, isolation gowns, face shields, goggles, and more.

“Your support can make a real difference at this critical time for the hospital that serves you and your family,” said DHS Foundation Executive Director Mike Bell. “Your donation gives medical teams in your community the resources they urgently need.”

“Unplanned, yet necessary expenses to prepare for screening and caring for COVID patients have strapped health care systems.  Community support is critical to saving lives and will provide much needed relief for our frontline medical teams,” Bell added.

Davis Health System hospitals are the largest providers of essential health services in a multi-county region including Randolph, Barbour, Tucker, Upshur, Pocahontas and Webster.
