Two deaths, 13 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said 13 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths had been confirmed in the state on Friday.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on May 15, 2020, there have been 71,682 laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,447 positive, 70,235 negative and 64 deaths,” according to a press release.

The two deaths announced Friday were a 76-year old female from Wayne County and a 68-year old male from Kanawha County.

About 499 of the West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 889 people have recovered and 64 have died, a mortality rate of about 6.7 percent.

New cases were reported Friday in Berkeley, Cabell, Fayette, Hampshire, Jackson, Mason, Ohio, Wayne, Wetzel, Wood and Wyoming counties.
