Upshur County Schools announces details for summer feeding program, set for June 6-24

BUCKHANNON – Upshur County Schools will offer summer meals for children ages 18 and younger. All schools will serve as open sites, where children can come to receive two hot meals Monday through Friday, June 6-24.

Schools will be closed on June 20, in recognition of West Virginia Day. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and lunch will be served at 12 p.m. (noon) in school cafeterias. Meals must be eaten on-site, and children can take one fruit, vegetable, or grain item to eat later offsite.

Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, schools have been operating under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) program, which provides federally funded meals to students. With the end of the SSO program, Upshur County Schools will no longer be able to offer multi-day, delivery, or curb-side meals to our children. However, children do have the option to go to a school near their home to enjoy a hot meal twice a day.

A nutritious meal is important for children to learn and remain active during the summer months. Upshur County Schools are dedicated to serving children and the community and look forward to seeing our students during Summer Learning Academy.
