Wesleyan football suffers 35-0 loss to Duquesne

PITTSBURGH — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats found very little offense Saturday and were kept off the scoreboard by host Duquesne University 35-0 in Pittsburgh.

For Duquesne, the scoring started late in the first quarter when JaMario Clements capped a 4-play, 26-yard drive with a dive into the end zone from one yard out.

The Dukes scored most of its points in the second quarter with touchdowns on three possession all via the air from quarterback Jordan Heisey who connected with Joey Isabella from three yards out five minutes into the quarter and twice connected with Jermaine Johnson from eight-yards (3:18 before the half) and seven yards (24 seconds before the half).

Shawn Solomon, Jr. wrapped up the Dukes scoring with a 7-yard touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter.

Wesleyan’s total net rushing yards was a paltry 11 yards to the Dukes’ 265. Through the air, the Bobcats managed 144 yards while Duquesne threw for 161. Total offense was 426-155.

Quarterback duties for the Bobcats was split between Quinton Pulley who went 9-of-21 for 85 yards and two interceptions, and Nathan Payne who went 11-of-19 for 59 yards and no turnovers.

Wesleyan’s Wesley Sweeney and Deion King led receiving duties with 38 and 33 yards, respectively.

Wesleyan travels to West Virginia State University Saturday, Sept. 28 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
