BUCKHANNON – The Young Harris women’s lacrosse team, overpowered West Virginia Wesleyan 21-1, Monday afternoon at Cebe Ross Field.
Young Harris wasted no time asserting dominance, exploding for 11 first-quarter goals while holding Wesleyan scoreless. Riley Parker set the tone early, netting two goals within the first two minutes, including a man-up score assisted by Addison Heiser. Parker completed a first-quarter hat trick before the onslaught continued with goals from Sydney Craig (3), Brooklyn Kiest (2), and Heiser (2), among others.
While the offense shined, the Mountain Lions’ defense was equally impressive. It held Wesleyan to just 10 total shots and forced 16 turnovers, stifling any offensive rhythm for the Laddy Bobcats.
Young Harris employed a three-goalie rotation, with Abbie Gallagher (30:00, 0 goals allowed), McKenna Graf (15:00, 3 saves), and Alyssa Rosenfeld (15:00, 2 saves) combining to nearly complete the shutout.
The Lady Bobcats struggled mightily but Emma Adcock managed to put them on the board with a fourth-quarter free-position goal, preventing the shutout. Wesleyan’s offensive woes were evident throughout, as the team failed to record a single shot in the first quarter and were limited to just one shot in the entire first half.
The Lady Bobcats (1-3) next travel to Malone University on Monday, Mar. 17 for an 11 a.m. start.
