NEW WILMINGTON (Pa) – Westminster (Pa.) women’s lacrosse delivered a commanding performance at the UPMC Sports Complex, rolling past West Virginia Wesleyan 19-2 in the Lady Bobcats’ opening game of the season.
Westminster wasted no time, jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the opening quarter. Felicia Young led the charge with two early goals. The Titans continued its relentless attack in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Bobcats 8-0 to take a 14-1 lead into halftime.
Wesleyan struggled to gain traction, managing just seven total shots in the first half and committing costly turnovers. The Lady Bobcats’ lone first-half goal came off a free-position shot from Francesca Sloan at the 3:46 mark of the first quarter.
The third quarter saw three more goals from the Titans, with Julia Ravazza netting her third of the day and Allyssa Anstis adding another tally.
The final frame saw Westminster add two more goals, courtesy of Ravazza and Caitey Wozniak, before the Lady Bobcats’ Nyah Elmer finally broke through with a consolation goal in the final minute.
Westminster outshot Wesleyan 37-16 and dominated the draw controls 19-5. The Titans also won the ground ball battle 26-16.
Defensively, Westminster limited the Lady Bobcats to just four free-position attempts, all of which were either saved or missed. Goalkeeper Falyn Snyder was solid in net, stopping six shots to anchor the Titans’ defense.
On the other end, Bobcats’ goalie Ella Gomez was under siege all game long, recording 10 saves but facing an onslaught of Westminster shots. Turnovers proved costly for West Virginia Wesleyan, as they coughed up the ball 23 times, compared to 15 for the Titans.
