Wesleyan volleyball drops 3-1 decision to Charleston

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats opened up Mountain East Conference play in Rockefeller Center against the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston.

The Lady Bobcats lost 3-1, but fought and competed, sending sets one and four over 25 points. Charleston won set one 28-26 and set four, 29-27. The key differences in the match included the front line defense for the Golden Eagles, with 19 blocks compared to Wesleyan’s seven. For the Lady Bobcats, the team recorded more kills with 51 to Charleston’s 43, and more digs with 80 compared to Charleston’s 58.

Notable performances for the Lady Bobcats included Bhrooke Axe and Alauna Wilson who led the team with 14 kills each. Sophomore, Emily Dension contributed both defensively and offensively with 13 kills and 16 digs on the back line. Alexis Moeschler led the team in digs with 26, and recorded five assists and two serving aces. Defensively, Axe led the team with five blocks followed by senior Jalya Cowherd with four blocks. Setter Jalynn West collected 40 assists on the night, as well as 18 digs.

The Lady Bobcats will play at Glenville State University this Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
