Wesleyan’s Cash named MEC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEPORT – West Liberty University sprinter Hunter Patterson has been named Mountain East Conference Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while West Virginia Wesleyan standout Samantha Cash has been selected as the MEC Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Patterson, a junior from Chester, W.Va., broke his own week-old school records on Saturday in winning the 60-meter and 200-meter sprints at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State University. Patterson’s winning time of 21.60 seconds in the 200 ranks 33rd in NCAA D2 this winter while his 6.80 clocking in the 60-meter race ranks 34th.

Cash, a versatile junior from Denton, Md., hit an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in winning the Pentathlon event at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational with a score of 3,591 points. Her winning score currently ranks 15th in NCAA D2 this winter.
