West Virginia reports 2,014 active COVID cases, two new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 2,014 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 21 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (47), Barbour (8), Lewis (10), Randolph (18) and Webster (9) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an unchanged number of active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 99-year old male from Wood County and an 83-year old female from Nicholas County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 29, 2022, there are currently 2,014 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been two deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,059 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 216 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 29 currently in intensive care and four on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 9.48%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
