West Virginia reports 3,166 active COVID cases, six new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 3,166 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 55 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (40), Barbour (51), Lewis (21), Randolph (25) and Webster (19) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of six active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 65-year old female from Hardy County, an 86-year old male from Marshall County, a 74-year old male from Jackson County, a 51-year old male from Mercer County, an 86-year old male from Kanawha County, and an 85-year old female from Braxton County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 3, 2022, there are currently 3,166 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been six deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,169 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 337 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 49 currently in intensive care and 14 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 12%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
