The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 437cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 70 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (2), Barbour (1), Lewis (1), Randolph (7) and Webster (2) counties.
Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 60-year old male from Kanawha County, an 81-year old male from Randolph County, and an 89-year old male from Pocahontas County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 15, 2022, there are currently 437 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been three deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,794 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 88 residents are hospitalized with the virus (51% unvaccinated, 49% vaccinated), with 31 currently in intensive care (48% unvaccinated, 52% vaccinated) and 11 on a ventilator (55% unvaccinated, 45% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 2.51%.
A total of 971,701 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 448,197 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
