West Virginia Wesleyan College welcomes largest new student class since 2017

BUCKHANNON, West Virginia –Officials at West Virginia Wesleyan College are preparing to welcome new students for Orientation activities August 19-20. The undergraduate new student class of over 360 students represents a 20% increase over 2022 and the largest new student class to enroll since 2017. Students will be coming to Wesleyan from 26 states and 14 foreign countries.

President of the College Dr. James Moore is excited to greet students and families this weekend.

“I think what this class shows us is that students can see the value in an education at West Virginia Wesleyan College,” Moore said. “This is a strong college, with faculty and staff who care deeply for their students.”

Enrollment of West Virginia residents is up 15% over 2022 including a 10% increase in WV Promise Scholars. International students, comprising over 11% of the class, have the potential to represent the largest freshman international cohort in over 20 years. Over 60% of new students intend to participate in athletics. The College has also reported increases in creative and performing artists and community service scholars as contributing to the large new student class. Some of the most popular majors include business, nursing, exercise science, education and biology. Over 20 students in the undergraduate new student cohort are transfer students from Alderson Broaddus University.

John Waltz, Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing, stated, “I am so thankful for the work of our admissions and financial aid teams, coaches, faculty and staff, student ambassadors, and the Buckhannon community in welcoming this incredible new student class throughout the year. We cannot wait to see what they accomplish.”
