BUCKHANNON — WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital recently hosted the first session of the West Virginia Junior Nursing Academy for rising 11th and 12th graders. The event took place from July 15-17.

Students joined nurses and other healthcare professionals for three full days to get a firsthand, behind-the-scenes look at the multi-faceted world of nursing, according to a recent social media post by the hospital. They rotated through different areas of WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital in order to explore nursing careers in various departments.

Participants received lessons in CPR, vital signs, basic first aid, interview and resumé skills, cast applying, safety and more. They also got to see inside the Healthnet helicopter and an ambulance.

A graduation ceremony was held at the end of the session, where students received a certificate of completion.
