BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital recognized National Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week, October 22-28.
Every year, in the last week of October, we thank our facility and engineering staff for their hard work and dedication. They ensure that we have a safe and efficient environment for all patients, residents, visitors and staff in our hospital and our clinics.
This year’s theme is “Embracing Innovation, Achieving Excellence.”
Allie Key had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Emma Pingley scored 17, but Buckhannon-Upshur fell 53-45 at East Fairmont as Kailee Haymond poured in a game-high 25 points.
Richard Lee Young II of Buckhannon, born October 28, 1956, died unexpectedly January 23, 2026, and is survived by his sons Richard III and Colin, granddaughters Kylie and Keira, sisters Ann and Marian, and other family members.
This week’s Upshur County sports calendar lists multiple basketball games at middle, junior varsity and varsity levels, wrestling meets, indoor track and field entries, and swimming competitions across Buckhannon-Upshur, West Virginia Wesleyan and regional schools.
With extreme cold settling in, West Virginia roads will likely stay icy despite extensive plowing and salting. Pavement temperature, sunlight, traffic friction and salt chemistry all fail in deep freezes, leaving crews with little they can do until temps rise.
With about $25,000 left in the 2025-26 parks budget, Buckhannon’s Consolidated Public Works Board approved a slate of upgrades at local parks. The plan includes new playground borders, mats and mulch, replacing fencing and paving the boat ramp at North Buckhannon Riverfront Park.
WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital honored Melissa Sothen, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, recognizing her compassionate care and clinical excellence.
