WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital proudly stepped up today in support of Governor Patrick Morrisey’s Mountaineer Mile initiative — a statewide campaign encouraging West Virginians to prioritize physical activity and embrace healthier lifestyles.
At noon, hospital President & CEO Skip Gjolberg led a spirited one-mile walk with staff during their lunch hour, kicking off what the hospital hopes will become a regular tradition in Buckhannon. The Mountaineer Mile aims to inspire residents across the state to lace up their shoes and take simple steps — literally — toward better health.
Gjolberg, who also serves as Chair of the West Virginia Hospital Association, took the effort one step further by emailing hospital CEOs across the state, encouraging them to incorporate the Mountaineer Mile into their own employee wellness programs.
“This initiative is a great reminder of how easy it can be to incorporate wellness into our daily lives,” said Gjolberg. “Walking is not only one of the best ways to stay physically fit, but it also supports mental well-being. Just taking 20 minutes a day to move can significantly contribute to an overall healthy lifestyle.”
WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital is excited to continue promoting wellness through regular walks and other community engagement efforts tied to the Mountaineer Mile. Residents of Buckhannon and the surrounding areas are encouraged to get involved — walk with friends, family, or coworkers, and help build a culture of health right here at home.
Stay tuned for future walk events and opportunities to participate. Together, we can make healthy living a habit — one step at a time.
