WVU School of Dentistry to host day of free oral care for children

The West Virginia University School of Dentistry will recognize National Children’s Dental Health Month by offering free care on Give Kids A Smile Day. The annual event is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the WVU Dental clinic at Suncrest Towne Centre in Morgantown.

Limited appointments are available for children ages one to 17 years old. To schedule an appointment, call 304-293-5831.

During appointments, children will receive free dental exams, radiographs, fluoride application and other needs, as determined by the provider, performed by WVU School of Dentistry dental and dental hygiene students under the guidance of faculty dentists.

Hosted at WVU by the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Give Kids A Smile is a national dental access program developed by the American Dental Association to provide free oral health education, screenings and preventive and restorative treatment to children in need.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that children see a dentist once their first tooth appears and no later than their first birthday. Early, regular visits enable the dental care team to assess potential risks and help establish healthy oral hygiene habits.

WVU Dental is the clinical practice component of WVU School of Dentistry. WVU Dental providers include faculty, resident and student dentists.
